Light & Mood log (explained)

This week’s experiment is a Light & Mood log. It consists on monitoring both my light exposure and the variations of my “mood”. It is a practical exercise that I do as a mode of training. More than trying to prove any direct correlation between these two variables I’m trying to engender a more meaningful relationship between light and life force. Along the way the methodologies I’m using will need to be criticised and transformed. For the moment, what I’m using to monitor mood is a sheet where I log 3 different variables every hour: power, joy, energy.

Every line corresponds to one of the variables and it moves from two extremes as illustrated below:

Every hour I draw 3 crosses. This method is very similar to the way mood is monitored within the field of psychiatry. Ideally after this week we will be able to criticise it and think of new ways of doing something like this. On the other hand, to monitor light exposure I use an Arduino board, a light sensor (an LDR),  and an SD card to store the readings. This small device is totally portable and I’ve programmed it so that it takes measurements every 30 sec.
